Lumikko Named Seinäjoki’s Company of the Year 2026
The Seinäjoki Entrepreneurs Association has named Lumikko Oy Seinäjoki’s Company of the Year 2026. The award was presented at the Yrittäjäfest event on 30 October. The recognition highlights Lumikko’s long-term growth, strong expertise, international expansion and commitment to strengthening the vitality of its hometown.
“Lumikko is recognised for its high level of expertise, forward-looking approach to development and ability to adapt to a changing business environment. The company is a significant employer in Seinäjoki and contributes to the vitality of the region through investments, continuous business development and by creating new opportunities for both employees and business partners. Lumikko Oy has demonstrated how a company rooted in Seinäjoki can grow into an internationally respected player while serving as a strong example for businesses and entrepreneurs throughout the region.”
From Seinäjoki to an Internationally Recognised Thermal Management Partner
Lumikko’s story began in 1970 in a garage in Seinäjoki, where the company set out to develop refrigeration equipment capable of performing in the demanding conditions of the North. Over more than five decades, the family-owned business has grown into an internationally operating designer and manufacturer of thermal management solutions.
Today, Lumikko’s solutions are used in a range of industries, including rail industry, defence, electrified mobile machinery and energy storage.
In the award citation, Seinäjoki Entrepreneurs highlighted Lumikko’s long-term commitment to development, technical expertise, willingness to embrace change, and contribution to the local economy as an employer and investor. The recipient of the award was selected based on nominations submitted by member companies.
A Recognition of Three Generations of Dedication
Lumikko’s CEO Lauri Latvala, who represents the third generation of the family business, used his award acceptance speech to thank the company’s current and former employees, as well as the previous generations who have helped build the business.
“Three generations have worked to build internationally recognised expertise in thermal management here in Seinäjoki. And that work continues today.”
Lumikko’s 56-year history has been marked by many milestones. In the week leading up to the award ceremony, employees took part in a joint 14-kilometre walk, visiting all five locations where the company has operated in Seinäjoki throughout its history.
A long history does not mean standing still. In 2026, Lumikko has continued to invest in its future, including the opening of a new Innovation Lab to strengthen its product development capabilities and support future growth.
“Let’s continue to be bold, keep innovating and take our ambitions further into the world. And in doing so, we help drive exports from Seinäjoki’s region!” Latvala encouraged the audience as he concluded his speech.
